We made OKC Great - Let's tell the World..
Through the hard work and investment of our citizens, we have built a dynamic city for residents and for visitors. And it is time we tell the world.
We currently spend significantly less on visitor marketing than our competitor cities, and we collect a lower hotel motel tax than all of our competitor cities. Increasing this tax - which is only paid on the cost of a hotel room -- will give us the funds to attract more visitors, more jobs and a stronger economy.
Creating Jobs for Oklahoma City
When visitors come Oklahoma City, our whole community thrives. In fact, the visitor industry supports more than 33,000 jobs in our city. Hospitality jobs provide great wages for our residents and are a customer service training ground for other businesses.
Growing our Economy
Tourism boosts and grows our local economy. Visitors already spend $2.6 billion annually in our city. Increased marketing will raise that amount even higher.
Visitor traffic is the lifeblood of many small businesses in our city -- from restaurants, to retail stores, to suppliers and more. This vote will help us protect their income and their future - and the vitality of our community.
Visitor Revenue Improves OKC
Visitors generate more than $343 million a year in local taxes. That is revenue we use to repair our streets, pay for police and fire protection, and more. Growing our visitor economy will fund even more for our city.
The tax we are voting to increase is only paid when renting a hotel room -- which means we do this without taxing residents. And the portion of the tax used for promotion hasn't been raised in 50 years. It's time to vote YES and make this change.
